Equal Rights Advocates’ Board of Directors
San Francisco, CA – Equal Rights Advocates is pleased to announce the election of Golden Gate Law School Dean Emerita Drucilla Stender Ramey to serve as the Chair of its Board of Directors beginning April 1st, 2016.
A nationally prominent leader of the legal community and fierce advocate for civil rights and social justice, Ramey brings to ERA her lifelong commitment to achieving equality for women and girls, communities of color, the LGBT community, and people with disabilities.
Following her early years as a litigator at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Ramey served as the longtime Executive Director and General Counsel of the Bar Association of San Francisco, moving that organization to a position of national leadership in the provision of pro bono legal services and the creation of ground-breaking diversity initiatives, including the California Minority Counsel Program. As Executive Director of the National Association of Women Judges, Ramey worked to enhance equal access to and diversity within the nation’s federal and state judiciary.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have Dru take the helm of ERA’s Board of Directors,” said ERA Executive Director Noreen Farrell. “We have no doubt that she will build upon a long tradition of dynamic and influential Board Chairs who help Equal Rights Advocates drive high impact change for women and girls. She is smart, strategic, and her passion for women’s equality is as relentless as it is contagious.”
“I am consummately proud to have the opportunity to work with our courageous and indefatigable Board and staff, led by the incomparable Noreen Farrell, at this watershed moment in the fight to achieve equality for women and girls in this country,” said Ramey.
A founder of California Women Lawyers and former chair of the ACLU of Northern California and the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, Ramey has received numerous awards including the ABA Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award, the American Jewish Committee’s Learned Hand Award, the CWL Fay Stender Award, and the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Award.
