Equal Rights Advocates Honors Civil Rights Partner and Law Firm Morrison & Foerster
“The work of ERA requires a special kind of commitment to social justice from the broader legal community,” said Executive Director Noreen Farrell. “Morrison & Foerster shows that commitment to gender justice in a thousand ways, from volunteer work on projects large and small, and committee and board leadership, to service as pro bono counsel on our largest and most important cases on behalf of women and girls.”
Equal Rights Advocates, based in San Francisco, is a national legal services organization that expands and protects the rights of women and girls. The award will be presented to representatives from Morrison & Foerster’s California offices at ERA’s 40th anniversary luncheon on June 17 in San Francisco. (For more information about ERA or the luncheon, visit equalrights.org.)
Morrison & Foerster’s partnership with ERA dates back many years. Its attorneys have long served as leaders on ERA’s Board of Directors. These attorneys include Kathi Pugh, disability rights icon and former Senior Pro Bono Counsel, and former partner Kimberly Van Voorhis. The firm is a national pro bono leader, and has worked alongside ERA and countless other non-profits on the most pressing civil and human rights issues of our time. The firm is currently assisting ERA in its investigation of gender equity practices at 116 elementary, middle, and high schools.
Morrison & Foerster is also a national leader in efforts to promote diversity in the legal profession. The firm was the first to receive the prestigious Catalyst award for its demonstrated commitment to the development of women leaders.
“ERA is extremely grateful for the commitment Morrison & Foerster has shown to the movement for a more just and equal society,” said Farrell. “Civil rights advocates of the Bay Area and across the nation know we can count on Morrison & Foerster.”
