ERA Co-Sponsors CA Fair Pay Act

February 25, 2015 | by

Equal Rights Advocates’-sponsored Senate Bill 358 was introduced by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus today in Sacramento. The California Fair Pay Act, or Senate Bill 358, will strengthen existing equal pay laws by eliminating loopholes and empowering employees to discuss pay without fear of retaliation. Take action and support SB 358.

Introduced by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, SB 358 addresses a persistent gender wage gap in California that is particularly devastating for Latinas, who earn 44 cents on average to a white man’s dollar.

“Equal pay for equal work should be a no brainer,” said ERA Executive Director Noreen Farrell. “Fair pay is good for women, their households, and the California economy. But California has the one of the worst Latina gender wage gaps in the country and women overall are losing billions of dollars each year. Equal Rights Advocates strongly supports the California Fair Pay Act introduced by Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, which will strengthen protections against pay discrimination and ensure protection for workers who make inquiries about pay. It is about fairness and it is about time.”
