Judge Gorsuch’s Confirmation Threaten’s Women’s Rights

April 7, 2017 | by

Today, the Senate confirmed Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court. This action, only made possible after fundamentally altering the rules of the Senate, threatens the constitutional rights of women and all working Americans.

“Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation poses a serious danger to the communities that Equal Rights Advocates has fought for over 40 years to defend. Judge Gorsuch has shown that he will support outcomes and legal rules that favor corporate interests and the powerful, at the expense of women, immigrants, working people, consumers, and the environment we all live in. In particular, his record on women’s reproductive access and freedom signals that he is a direct threat to Roe v. Wade and women’s economic security. Today, the 54 Senators who voted for Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation showed a clear disregard for the rights of women and girls, and their vote will impact generations of women,” said ERA Legal Director Jennifer Reisch.
