“You have galvanized our movement to replace you. We are united more than ever before.”
Equal Rights Advocates joins many throughout the country devastated by today’s vote ascending Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is charged with defending and protecting the civil and constitutional rights of all people. Our confidence that it will be able to do so after today is shaken.
We expected our elected officials to take very seriously their duty to investigate the credible charges of sexual assault against Judge Kavanaugh. They failed. We expected them to put aside partisan politics and heed the deep concerns of millions across the country. They declined. To the fifty senators who cast “aye” votes today, understand that as you harmed our judiciary and ignored survivors, you have galvanized our movement to replace you. We are united more than ever before. We understand what you have placed at risk. And we will rise up to make sure the rights of women, workers, and others who are targets of your agenda are not compromised.
As we swarmed the Senate and the streets in the days leading to this vote, we will swarm the polls in November, and there will be a reckoning. The #WomensMarch for our rights continues.
Equal Rights Advocates is a national civil rights organization dedicated to protecting and expanding economic and educational access and opportunities for women and girls.
