Minority Business Entrepreneur Magazine: Why Equal Pay for Black Women Can’t Wait Another Generation
August 9. 2025
National Campaigns Director & Director of Equal Pay Today Deborah J. Vagins was interviewed by Minority Business Entrepreneur Magazine about the wage gap for Black women, workplace practices that unfairly impact Black women, how Trump Administration actions negatively impact Black women at work, policy solutions, and more.
“The wage gap robs black women of over a million dollars over their lifetime when you’re looking at that full-time year-round number.”…“There’s also retirement savings and generational wealth too that’s being deprived from people,” Vagins notes. …
“The DOGE cuts have disproportionately impacted Black federal workers in agencies like the Department of Education or Health and Human Services, where Black women are overrepresented,” Vagins explains. …
“If jobs don’t post wages or people, you can see a gap, right? Where men may get more than women are getting,” Vagins observes. “Pay transparency helps to level the playing field.” …
“I think we’re facing the real danger of a workplace re-segregation that will set women of color back generations,” Vagins warns.
