ERA Economic Justice Director and Director of the Equal Pay Today Campaign Seher Khawaja will speak at the webinar “The Full Equation: Why True Affordability Requires Wage Justice,” hosted by PowHer.

As the affordability crisis grows and families struggle to make ends meet, many policymakers are finally focusing on measures to reduce costs. That is only part of the equation. We cannot afford to let candidates sidestep the difficult and necessary conversations about increasing wages. Wage inequity, including the persistent gender and race wage gap, remains a major structural driver of household financial insecurity in New York and around the country that must be addressed.

Panelists will discuss why our representatives must respond to the affordability crisis with concrete measures to tackle wage inequity and address longstanding structural barriers that undermine basic economic security for so many New Yorkers. To lift up this conversation, the New York Equal Pay Campaign will release a new report: The Wage Gap and the Affordability Crisis: How Closing the Gender Pay Gap Can Make New York Affordable Again.
