Why This Matters
When workers have stronger workplace protections and better opportunities, everyone benefits. Black, Latina, Indigenous, and other women of color are essential to our workplaces, communities, and economy, yet they are disproportionately impacted by harassment, discrimination, occupational segregation, and pay inequities. And they’re often excluded from policy decisions. Centering their economic needs and voices in policy reform advances equality for everyone.
Creating Rights Sanctuaries for Working Families
This project connects advocates, lawmakers, and community groups to transform the law. We’re tracking progressive state-level policy reform across the U.S., and collaborating with advocates across the country to shore up state protections in the face of an increasingly threatening federal landscape.
The Gender Equity Policy Hub builds on the work of the Stronger California Advocates Network’s Economic Security Initiative—a collaboration of 70+ organizations and coalitions, founded and chaired by Equal Rights Advocates—which has advanced comprehensive fair pay, anti-harassment, and anti-discrimination reforms in California, which are now being replicated in other states.
This effort includes ERA’s formation of the nation’s first Network of States to Stop Harassment with partner organizations, coordinating on policy reforms to combat harassment and discrimination in workplaces and schools. Our network co-anchor is the National Women’s Law Center. Together, we provide support to state advocates on the ground advancing gender justice policy reforms.
