2020 showed the world that getting “back to normal” will not suffice: it’s time to transform the systems that shape our lives.

Dear friend,

I could not be more excited to share the 2020 Equal Rights Advocates Annual Report with you. What a year it was. A devastating pandemic rocked the globe. Our nation faced a long-overdue reckoning with centuries of racist oppression and attacks against our democracy. The gutting impacts of systemic inequity—on our economy, public health, schools, and other social infrastructures—did not only expose the unfinished business of our movement. It energized you, me, and millions across the country to reimagine these systems and demand bold change.

So we at ERA did what we do best: rolled up our sleeves and got to work, more inspired than ever to advance the rights and well-being of our country’s most oppressed communities. I’m so proud of what ERA achieved last year—and we have so much left to do to achieve true justice for all. Your support of our mission has meant the world to our team and the communities we serve.

This Annual Report is a testament to our collective community power. Together, we can build the world we want to live in

In a time of crisis, I’m inspired by ERA’s vision for a future where we ALL can thrive—where women, girls, and people of all genders are supported throughout their lives as students, workers, and family leaders. 2020 showed the world that getting “back to normal” will not suffice: it’s time to transform the systems that shape our lives. Following the lead of folks most harmed by systemic injustice—low-paid immigrant domestic workers, Black moms who are essential workers, LGBTQ+ student survivors of sexual violence, and more—we’re hard at work reshaping broken systems so that they actually nurture and protect workers, students, and families.

This Annual Report is a testament to our collective community power. Together, we can build the world we want to live in. Will you join us in this fight by making a gift to support our work in 2021?

Thank you for everything you do to advance gender, racial, and economic justice with us. It’s our great honor to build this movement with you!

Onward toward justice,
Noreen Farrell
