About ERA

Equal Rights Advocates fights for gender justice in workplaces and schools across the country. Since 1974, we’ve been fighting on the front lines of social justice to protect and advance rights and opportunities for women, girls, and people of all gender identities through groundbreaking legal cases and bold legislation that sets the stage for the rest of the nation.

Our country’s most pressing challenges — poverty, violence, discrimination — will be solved by transforming our communities into places where every woman and girl can lead. We envision a world where work and school are guaranteed places of safety and promise; where every student can grow to their fullest potential; where all women have the economic security they need to care for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Together, we’re building a world of true gender justice, where everyone has equal opportunity to thrive.

Our Impact

When it comes to gender justice, we leave no stone unturned. We enforce civil rights laws in court, fight to end sexual assault and sexual harassment in our schools and workplaces, provide free legal counseling and advice to those who need it, fight unequal pay in the workplace, and partner with other advocacy organizations to ensure we’re addressing the most pressing social justice issues impacting each of our communities.

The ERA Team

We are a dynamic team of lawyers and advocates leading the fight for gender justice in schools and workplaces through impact litigation, policy reform, community outreach, and movement-building at the state and federal levels.

ERA Initiatives

By combining forces with other advocacy organizations, women’s rights advocates, and community leaders nationwide, we’re tackling some of the biggest gender justice issues facing our country today. Our initiatives for workplace equality and economic security fight for policy reform and innovative laws that give every worker an opportunity to thrive in safe, equitable, discrimination-free work environments with fair and equal pay. In schools, our Initiative to End Sexual Violence in Education features the nation’s first pro bono network of volunteer attorneys dedicated to providing free legal counseling to student survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
