Associated Press, NPR, ABC: Critics say campus sex assault rules fall short and need an overhaul

Senior Attorney Maha Ibrahim is featured in an Associated Press article–which got picked up by NPR, ABC News, The Hill, Chicago Tribune, and others–about how Title IX needs new regulations and is failing student survivors of sexual violence due in part to harmful Title IX regulations put in place by Trump and former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

For all the difficulties colleges have had adjudicating sex assault cases, Title IX at least holds them accountable for protecting the rights of accusers who can otherwise sue, said Maha Ibrahim, a staff attorney with Equal Rights Advocates, a nonprofit that represents survivors.

“What if it wasn’t there? Then what?” she said. “You know, college campuses are just a free for all, a very dangerous place for women and for queer folks. And then what?”
