Inc.: How Lilly Ledbetter’s Fight for Equal Pay Impacted the American Workplace

National Campaigns Director Deborah Vagins was featured on Inc. speaking about Lilly Ledbetter, who passed away Oct. 12.
Deborah J. Vagins, national campaign director of the nonprofit Equal Rights Advocates and director of the campaign Equal Pay Today, lobbied for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and worked alongside Ledbetter. She says Ledbetter “realized that her law did not give women new tools to fight the pay gap, and so she immediately pivoted to start working on advocating for other pieces of legislation.” …
But Vagins argues that Ledbetter’s work continues to have lasting impacts on the fight for equal pay in American workplaces: “The fruit of her work is the fact that pay equity is at the front of people’s minds when they think about women’s rights, when they think about economic justice.”
