Family Voices Amplified

Welcome to Family Voices Amplified, a campaign by Equal Rights Advocates, powered by our community advisors at NBCDI, UnidosUS, and supported generously by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Four years after the pandemic, we continue to listen to the voices of Black and Latinx families as they fight to recover from Covid-19 childcare and workplace disruptions. Through surveys, focus group workshops, and interviews, participants shared powerful stories of how the economic injustice laid bare in 2020 continues to affect their lives. They also discussed the strategies and support systems they rely on to care for their families.

The resulting policy recommendations offer a chance to center Black and Latinx voices in driving meaningful change.

KeyΒ Findings

During this project’s in-depth conversations, Black and Latinx women and caregivers identified the top structural inequities currently keeping them and their families from thriving. We then worked with these participants to develop policy solutions to these barriers. Our top policy recommendations (discussed more in the Policy Report & Recommendations below), include:

  • Provide a living wage, access to better jobs and stronger employment protections
  • Enact national paid family and medical leave, paid sick and safe days, and stronger caregiver supports
  • Ensure greater access to quality, affordable healthcare and insurance, including comprehensive mental healthcare access and support
  • Provide affordable housing and anti-displacement policies
